Valentine's Dinner For Two

Earlier in the week [here], I mentioned spreading that Valentine's love to other areas of the house... I'm happy to report that I did spread the love, as usual, right on into the dining room. [Which just so happens to be the regular landing spot for all of my holiday decorating: Halloween 1 and 2 and Christmas.] Apparently, I cannot get enough of the holidays! Although, I do think I'll be able to skip right over St. Patrick's Day -- I'm not really into that one.

I knew I wanted to make last night's dinner special! This was the first Valentine's Day Austin and I have been able to celebrate together, as he was traveling for business last year. So earlier in the week, I went to Michael's and The Party Store and stocked up on what was left (which wasn't much). If it was red and/or pink, cute, and under $5, I bought it! I only spent around $15-20 on all of the decor. Take a look:

I wanted a smaller table -- for 2 -- so I removed the leaf in the table. Worked like a charm!

For the napkins, I found some very affordable fabric from Hancock's and used that to make our own V-Day napkins.

I made the "XOHeart" banner earlier in the week. Using light/dark pink and red felt, I just cut out hearts, x's, and o's and sewed them together. Super easy!

This was the best chocolate cake! Here is the recipe in case you're ever in the mood for one.

How do you think I did? Like I said in this post, I've never been the type to really get into Valentine's Day. I've always written it off as a holiday like NYE -- so overrated! But I'm glad I decided to embrace it this year. If you're going to do it, you might as well do it big, right??

On a totally different note, I'm sooo glad I have a 3-day weekend ahead of me! I'm looking forward to catching up on some much needed sleep. I'll be back next week with a living room progress update.

Have a happy weekend!
