Yes, I'm Still Here!

I know, I've been kind of M.I.A. this week; on Tuesday and Wednesday, I attended professional development events (for teaching), so I've been really busy! The good thing is, I learned of some new, awesome activities/projects which I plan to implement in my classroom. I think my students will love them! Long story short, I haven't had much time to spend on home projects over the past week, so I'm a little bit behind. Not to worry, though, as I should be able to pick up my paint brushes and get back to work (and sharing, too)!

As I mentioned here, we had some space issues in one of the corners of the new kitchen. A certain cabinet was not working with the dishwasher and the dishwasher wasn't working with the fridge. I hated losing the function of an entire drawer, but even more, I just hated losing the space in general. To have an area that serves no function, I couldn't bear. So I came up with an idea, rather quickly, if I may add, of which I was pretty proud! I can't take full credit for this wonderful solution, as I actually got the idea from Pinterest. It was one of my very first pins, which had me impressed even more -- I couldn't believe that I actually remembered this! Clearly, it had made quite the impression. Once I had thought of this possible solution, I was, then, worried that my contractor would break my heart, again (after already breaking it once when I lost the drawer), by telling me it couldn't be done. I was so glad that I was wrong! The handyman, Chuck, who put in the cabinets, built me my wonderful space saver!

Allow me to introduce you to my new, very cool, awesome, and space friendly paper towel holder:

Isn't it great?! I never thought, growing up, that I could be so excited about a paper towel holder, but I am! Here is the picture, I'd originally pinned on Pinterest:

Have you ever seen a cubby in a kitchen, like this, before? Like I said, I'd obviously seen it on Pinterest, but never in person. And just for perspective, here it is at a few more angles:

Also, they were able to get the fridge, far enough, back into the wall, so that the dishwasher now opens all the way! It barely, and I'm talking BARELY, gets by the fridge without touching it! But as long as it doesn't touch the fridge, and therefore scratch it, I'm good.

In case you're wondering about the actual design of the cubby/holder, here it is:

And I had to throw in this last one, only because Twiggy looks so cute! :)

What do you think? By the way, if you're wondering if I actually like the functionality of the new holder, the answer is YES, very much! It's very easy to switch out an old roll with a new one. Also, I love having one less thing on the countertop; that is probably my favorite aspect of it. I like clean, fairly empty countertops, so this is a great space saver!
