Dining Room Decor: Update

First things first -- this is not on the subject of decorating the dining room, but I'm quickly realizing that while preparing for the upcoming school year, my time is split between home and school. So I'm not continuously doing home projects like I was at the beginning of the summer. Therefore, at least until I have a better handle on, both, school and home, I will only post three times a week -- Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I hope that, once school gets started and I'm in a routine, I'll be able to post, again, Monday-Friday, but until then, I'll be seeing you on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays!

Now onto more exciting business. As you all know, I've been really focusing my decorating energy on the dining room. I'm not sure why that is, maybe because it's the "entry" room into the house or just because I started there and I'd like to "finish" it... Who knows. In this post, I showed you the in progress pictures of the dining room and this to-do list:

  • Paint the walls BM Cameo White
  • Replace TV console table with real buffet
  • Wire for light fixture
  • Hang light fixture
  • Hang window panels
  • Buy rug
  • Hang wall art/prints
  • Hang mirror above buffet
  • Buy new lamps for buffet

Since then, I've bought lamps and prints for the room. I'm not sure if the lamps will stay as-is, or if I'll change the shades, or maybe add a decorative trim around the bottom of the shades, again, I don't know just yet. For now, I'm living with them as they are and as I finish up the last few touches, I'll decide what to do with them then. I bought the new lamps from Home Goods, for $29.99 each, about three months ago. I actually bought them for the guest bedroom, but decided to try them out in the dining room, and they were a great fix to the other two, also from Home Goods, that were there for just lighting purposes.

The new prints are from Ryser's, which is in London, KY. They were priced at $175 each and I got them 30% off -- woo-hoo! I always love getting things at a discount; any money I can save, I'm down for it! It just means that's money back in my pocket which I can put toward something else.

So this is the to-do list now, with the most recently completed items in red (just because I love to see new items crossed off the list!):

  • Paint the walls BM Cameo White
  • Replace TV console table with real buffet
  • Wire for light fixture
  • Hang light fixture
  • Hang window panels
  • Buy rug
  • Hang wall art/prints
  • Hang mirror above buffet
  • Buy new lamps for buffet
As usual, I'll show you some before, before and before pictures, first, just so you can see and appreciate the changes: (Plus, I always enjoy seeing how far a project has come!)

Before, before: (if only I had pictures of what it looked like before I moved in!)

Isn't it soo bare?! It's crazy that, at the time, I didn't realize just how bare it was. I obviously knew there was lots to do; but looking back, I didn't see the total "bareness" I see today... Does that make sense?

And before:

Now, the new in-progress pictures. Again, not a whole lot has changed, just look for new hanging prints and buffet lamps:

Yes, I know -- I need to do something about those wires!

What do you think? Did you notice the prints on the wall and that pop of color in the front door, when it's open? Did you also notice that we've wired for the new light fixture in the ceiling? That's in the forefront of upcoming projects -- it's going to be a DIY project; we'll see how it turns out! I'll be sure to share that one with you.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  2. thanks, chelsea! i, too, love the door open -- it makes me think about possibly painting the inside part of the door the same color as the outside... all food for thought! and yes, your pic/frame is in a good spot -- austin was actually the one who put it there; i think he did a good job! miss you! xo
