Let's Change the Subject

Our contractor seems to be M.I.A. which is making me nervous. No work has been done on the kitchen in the last three days and he didn't answer my phone call this morning. I feel as though he's holding our new white cabinets hostage... My patience is really beginning to wear thin!

So, to keep myself from rambling on and on about my frustrations with our contractor and the pace of the renovation, I'm switching gears from the kitchen to the dining room. I wish I had a true "before" picture of this room pre-dining room; the walls were painted a caramel-like color and it was used as a second living room. Considering our house is fairly small, but had two living rooms and no dining area, I turned this entry "living room" into a true dining room. This room seems to have gotten most of my attention these past few months, as many of the items on the to-do list have been checked off.

Here is the original to-do list and what we've already accomplished:

  • Paint the walls BM Cameo White
  • Replace TV console table with real buffet
  • Wire for light fixture
  • Hang light fixture
  • Hang window panels
  • Buy rug
  • Hang wall art/prints
  • Hang mirror above buffet
  • Buy new lamps for buffet
As you can see, a lot of work has been done in the dining room, leaving just a few things left on the list. The dining room update started with a fresh coat of paint on the walls, followed by a major score at the Ballard Designs Outlet in Cincinnati! Before I even stepped foot into the store, I spotted the buffet through the window with a sign on top of it saying it was an additional 50% off the outlet price -- I knew it was meant to be!

{Home Goods lamps}

The buffet was originally priced around $1,300 while at Ballard Designs; then, at the outlet, the price was $950, so the extra 50% off sealed the deal! After this purchase, I was so glad that I hadn't taken the plunge and bought Ballard's newer version ($899) I had been eyeing over the past few months, shown here:

The dining room with the new buffet:

{Pier 1 table and chairs}

Once the new buffet was in, everything else seemed to just roll along. Here is the dining room in progress:

{Kravet fabric; Adelé mirror; Target hardware}

I think it's coming along nicely. Just a few more things, and this room will be "complete." Of course, until I find something to change... :) Have a great weekend!

    1. i actually chuckled out loud when reading this! it's funny you say that because i've been doing my research on how to drywall, actually. i've got visions of me with a tool belt on and drill in my hands hanging it... too bad my dad told me that our ceiling, upstairs, probably contains asbestos and that i should have a professional look at it before breaking into it... bummer! i still haven't totally given up on my vision. we'll see!
